Martine Elliott Dip HE (Open) is an abstract landscape painter based in Exeter, whose practice explores memory, movement and the shifting nature of place.

Following a 23-year career as cabin crew with British Airways, Elliott’s work is informed by sustained experiences of viewing the world from above, where landscape is encountered as transient, fragmented and continually in flux. Drawing on aerial perspectives, shifting light and the residue of global travel, her paintings occupy a space between observation and emotional recall.

Through layered compositions and gestural mark-making, Elliott constructs landscapes that resist fixed geography. Instead, they reflect the instability of place in a time of environmental and perceptual change—where terrain is shaped as much by memory and movement as by physical form.

Influenced by the decorative density of Gustav Klimt and the expressive energy of Joan Mitchell, her work navigates a tension between structure and fluidity. These are not literal depictions, but experiential terrains—inviting the viewer to look from above, through and beyond, encountering landscape as something lived, felt and continuously re-formed.
